Elsa K Donovan is an interdisciplinary artist and researcher based in Paris, France. Her work explores living materials, biodesign, and community engagement, examining how caring for living technologies can foster more reciprocal relationships between people, technology, and the environment. She holds a Bachelor's in computation arts and computer science from Concordia University and is a graduate researcher in biodesign and synthetic biology at the Learning Planet Institute. During a research residency at the Speculative Life Biolab at Concordia University, she developed protocols for bioprinting photosynthetic hydrogels for bio-photovoltaic applications. She is currently working on the REGEN project. In 2026, she organized the Living Materials, Living Worlds conference at the Learning Planet Institute in Paris, bringing together practitioners and researchers exploring what it means to design in relationship with living matter.
