The Air Filtration Group in Residency at Perte-de-Signal

July  2022

Alice Jarry, Brice Ammar-Khodja, Jacqui Beaumont, Matthew Halpeny, Philippe Vandal, Don Undeen and Gia Zozula work at Perte-de-Signal to develop the [re]capture prototype.
Art installation composed of acrylic tubes that visualize different circulation and filtrations processes of air particles
Within the context of the project Membranes souples dynamiques (FRQ-SC), Alice Jarry and CURC members Brice Ammar-Khodja, Jacqui Beaumont, Matthew Halpeny, Philippe Vandal, and Don Undeen and Gia Zozula will develop a prototype at Perte-de-Signal for the [re]capture installation.

Composed of air, atmospheric residue from the Metropolitan Highway, bioplastics, foam, strawberries, abaca filters, motors, electronics, LEDs, 3D printing, atmospheric pollution sensors, turbines, and video projection, [re]capture explores the concept of ‘filtration’.

As such, [re]capture uses biomaterials, plants and electronic strategies to create a dialogue between outdoor atmospheric data capture apparatus and a gallery installation. While air toxicity is a growing issue, this project under development seeks to give form to the microscopic invisibility of air pollution and the macroscopic dimension of its issues.
